This is causing IE to never complete the page, crash, freeze, and makes it effectively unusable for my clients.

    Any advice or thoughts?
Note i have tested this across a few sites on EE2.2.2 latest build.
Help appreciated as once again i cannot pass over a complete project to a client due to control pnale issues.

And as much as get a better browser is a solution - its not an otion i shold have to take i don’t think! Hope you can advise. N

    Hi nevsie,

I’m sorry to hear about the frustration this is causing you and your client. It looks like some of the JavaScript isn’t being loaded. In order to track down what’s going on here, I need to get some context on this problem.

    - Where is this happening in the Control Panel? Could you give us some steps to reproduce it?
    - Are there places in the CP where the problem does NOT occur?
    - Does the issue occur consistently or sporadically?
    - Other than the errors noted above, what effect does this have on the CP?
    - Are there any modules, extensions, plugins or accessories installed in the Control Panel on sites where this happens or can you reproduce it on a freshly installed copy of EE 2.2.2?
    - Are all the sites you’ve tested this with located on the same server?
    - Is this being tested using a high-speed Internet connection?
    - Is Internet Explorer running in Compatibility Mode? Does the behavior change if you turn it on/off?
    - Testing the site using the same Internet connection and a different browser, do you see any warnings or errors popping up in a non-IE browser’s error console?

Answers to these questions will help me narrow down when and where the issues are happening and hopefully point us toward a solution. Thanks!

    Hi Kevin,
I appreciate I was less than helpful there - but to be honest the frustration of EE and not being able to hand over got the better of me!

That is on a pretty much live site with lots going on - so i am going to simplify and setup a sandbox EE2.2.2 version if that is okay. That way i can strip out addons, plugins, fields, etc, without risk to the site in hand.

General information about experience with EE and IE.
IE6 (i know not supported) does not even login - but that is by the by.

IE7-8-9 All regularly fall into compatibility mode (mostly when going to publish pages), as such you get kicked out of the control panel and to the login screen again. Painful. Now on this login screen i did have a few custom fields - mostly Brandon’s (WYGWAM, PLAYA, etc) - hence i want to test this in the sandbox. But the errors at the top see related to HTML and Jquery, rather than specific field type JS.

The errors i pasted above, all occur in the publish page, however, i have not checked any of the various other sections so i will and get back to you. I’ll keep you posted.

okay fresh install of IE9 (win7 64), disabled all logical add-ons in the browser to make it as normal as possible.

Login screen - nothing wrong in console
After login on CP home - in IE developer console:

HTML1113: Document mode restart from Quirks to IE9 Standards
    index.php?S=bf43bf6e96438ca4703e1d4ea1f3b2891789fd9f&D=cp&C=homepage

    First move into Content->Publish->TestChannel
This have nothing in it other than an EE File field, no custom layout, basic, and nothing.
IE 9 Console produces the following errors and is completely unusable. I cannot access any fields, tabs, anything, screen is frozen - only way is to close the screen or hit back button:

SEC7115: :visited and :link styles can only differ by color. Some styles were not applied to :visited.
    index.php?S=bf43bf6e96438ca4703e1d4ea1f3b2891789fd9f&D=cp&C=homepage
SEC7115: :visited and :link styles can only differ by color. Some styles were not applied to :visited.

    SCRIPT1006: Expected ')'
    index.php?S=bf43bf6e96438ca4703e1d4ea1f3b2891789fd9f&D=cp&C=content_publish&M=entry_form&channel_id=1, line 1 character 30
    SCRIPT5009: 'Object' is undefined
    jquery.js?v=1313771952, line 28 character 421
    SCRIPT5009: 'jQuery' is undefined
    index.php?S=bf43bf6e96438ca4703e1d4ea1f3b2891789fd9f&D=cp&C=javascript&M=load&file=css&theme=default&v=1313771915, line 1 character 2

From CP Home to COntent->Edit only occasionally loads the page, and on the odd occasion it does i cannot use the page. everything is inactive, and cannot interact with the cursor. Again, click back and try again.

Content->FileManager - cannot use or interact with the page, same errors again:

SEC7115: :visited and :link styles can only differ by color. Some styles were not applied to :visited.
    index.php?S=bf43bf6e96438ca4703e1d4ea1f3b2891789fd9f&D=cp&C=content_files
    SCRIPT5009: 'Object' is undefined

    SCRIPT5009: '$' is undefined

Edit a template, template manager, etc:

SEC7115: :visited and :link styles can only differ by color. Some styles were not applied to :visited.
    index.php?S=bf43bf6e96438ca4703e1d4ea1f3b2891789fd9f&D=cp&C=design&M=edit_template&id=1

As you can see - a really problematic environment. I cannot imagine this is a corrupt file issue as the same thing occurs across 3 installs in separate locations. My hosting, a rackspace hosting, and Enginehosting. But being a JS Error - i cannot imagine this is hosting issue, but browser.

    Please advise.
    Thanks, N

Final Note - please read the issues above.
But switching to compatibility mode fixes JS issues, but of course the CP now looks like a dog as half the style and layout does not work properly.
Using a basic wiki - IE still has a percentage share of 40-50%, so a large issue. Our designers, and intuitive users can choose browsers, but many clients - doctors, manufacturing, office based people do not have a choice and are stuck with IE - so i hand over a product which they cannot use. I am finishing projects and not getting paid, because the product is useless to them.

After visiting Jquery UI page in IE - that does not load either.
Again i need to go into compatibility mode to get it working. SO that probably is related, but worrying the dependence on external libraries - even as big as jquery is!

in compatibility mode on IE going to a plain publish page i still get:

HTML1201: sandbox/ is a website you've added to Compatibility View.
    index.php?S=c9c2a3ffa86a39f2ab20b6371b97378bcb2392ed&D=cp&C=content_publish&M=entry_form&channel_id=1

    Hi nevsie,

Just wanted to update the thread to let you know that I read through your responses, and I’ve been working on trying to confirm the issues you’re experiencing for the last little bit here. While my IE9 console shows the same warnings and errors you’re seeing, it doesn’t affect my usage of EE at all. (Strange, I know.) While this is good news, it does unfortunately mean that it doesn’t point us to the problem at hand.

You’ve updated this thread with a lot of information, and it’s all helpful, but I do need to know the answers to the questions I asked in this post. Could you please respond to the those questions?

    - Where is this happening in the Control Panel? Could you give us some steps to reproduce it?
Publish page - freezes before end of page load preventing interaction with fields. Other pages are fine.

    - Are there places in the CP where the problem does NOT occur?
As above, anywhere other than the publish page

    - Does the issue occur consistently or sporadically?
    Always.

    - Other than the errors noted above, what effect does this have on the CP?
As i say it freezes on publish page and the only option is to close or go back. Cannot interact with any fields.

    - Are there any modules, extensions, plugins or accessories installed in the Control Panel on sites where this happens or can you reproduce it on a freshly installed copy of EE 2.2.2?
As per my tests, i used a sandbox environment with only base standard install. no addons.

    - Are all the sites you’ve tested this with located on the same server?
As mentioned above - across engine hosting, rackspace server and a couple of other resellers i have seen the same.

    - Is this being tested using a high-speed Internet connection?
Yes - current location 8mb connection, tested and experienced same in higher speed connections.

    - Is Internet Explorer running in Compatibility Mode? Does the behavior change if you turn it on/off?
With compatibility mode off i cannot even log in to EE! It sends me in a login loop.

    - Testing the site using the same Internet connection and a different browser, do you see any warnings or errors popping up in a non-IE browser’s error console?
Testing in Firefox shows only CSS value warnings, no errors. Likewise for other good browsers.

    Hope that helps. N

Would it be possible to get access to several of these sites for testing? Be on the lookout for an email from me. If I can get some login details relatively soon, I’ll make sure this gets attention today.

    Hi Kevin,
To be honest, having spoken to both clients - they are not 100% happy at this stage with their install being used in this way - personally i disagree as it would mean potentially their install and problems being resolved - but they do not see it that way.

Therefore, hopefully the sandbox site would be suitable for you to use?
It is virtually a complete basic install of EE2.2.2 and you can hack away all you like. Suitable?

    Hi guys,

I’m getting this one as well with IE9 on a client site. Email me on .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) if you’d like to have access to an install you can reproduce the error on.

@nevsie: Absolutely, the Sandbox will be fine. As long as you’re getting the errors on the Sandbox as well, we don’t have to mess with your clients’ sites.

@Bjørn: I’d love to take a look at your server as well. Post here with any additional details that would help us reproduce the problem on your end. Be on the lookout for an email from me as well.

    Thanks guys!

    Hey nevsie and Bjørn–

I logged into the sites for which you both provided login details with IE7, IE8, and IE9. I didn’t post anything to your site, Bjørn, since it’s a live site. Since yours was a sandbox, nevsie, I posted an entry from each browser, including a file selected from the file manager modal. While I was able to see the errors you’re talking about, they didn’t appear to affect the actual use of the publish pages. Not that those errors shouldn’t be fixed, but I think something else is going on here. I get those errors on my own EE sites when visiting them in IE7, IE8, or IE9, but they don’t prevent it from working as expected.

nevsie, are you still experiencing the same issues on the sandbox that you are on your clients sites? I ask because I wonder if some fieldtype present on those sites that’s not on the sandbox is causing the difference.

Bjørn, could you describe the problem you experience exactly when you navigate to Publish -> FAQ?

The reason I came here was because I had a problem with Channel Images which does not work with IE - so I searched for those errors in the Console and found this thread.

I do not experience any problems in particular when posting to the FAQ, but I’d say JavaScript errors in the console is reason enough to investigate and fix.
