Is there a way to track downloads in EE?

Thanks.

Hiya,

Whilst there isn’t a built in way that I know of you could use something like the AJAX Linktracker module or you could probably very easily create a simple plugin to do what you need as well.

Hope that helps a bit.

Best wishes,

Mark

Mark,

Thanks for the tip on the AJAX tracker. I’ll look into that. And nice try on

probably very easily create a simple plugin to do what you need as well.

From looking over the forums there has been a fair amount of discussion on this point and others, who even have experience building modules/plugins have struggled with this one.

I’ll keep searching.

BTW, how is that photo site you were working on coming along?

No problem. A nice little module that one so hopefully should do what you need to a tee.

Well it shouldn’t be all that hard. All you would need is a separate database table to hold certain items such as the entry_id if the downloads are held in a weblog entry or fields for name of file etc…

The plugin would then just serve up the file and write whatever information you need to be stored to the database. You could then even write a few plugin tags that would retrieve this information so that you can show it on your site either to your users directly or so that you yourself can view the data.

There are a few other ways of doing this too such as Mint. I’m pretty sure that either out of the box or with one of the ‘pepper’ plugins for the system you can track downloads.

Still working on it in between everything else but alas client sites have to come first.

Best wishes,

Hi Folks!

So I put in the AJAX Linktracker, Nice script super easy to set up.
Problem is we use download lock and I don’t think these 2 scripts are compatible with each other…

Can anyone offer some advice on this?

Lavi,

I would recommend looking into Brad Street’s LinkLocker Module it combines all the functionality into one. It not only locks the file, but allows you to track downloads as well. http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/94100/
