Upgrading my license, which one to choose? Can I upgrade incrementally?

Ok, I know it’s been asked many times, I’ve even read the threads, but I want to confirm for myself before I get the wrong license.

I’m building my first EE website (currently on my local machine with a freelancer license), it’s my personal project and not making any income.

The website will not make money initially, nor be affiliated with a company or organization. It will be a personal project.

I do have hopes that I will one day grow the website into a for-profit business, if it looks like there is an opportunity to take it from the “personal project” stage to “profitable website” stage. If not, the website would ultimately die a slow, painful death… a not-for-profit death!

The Question:

Can I upgrade my Freelancer license to a Non-commercial license to get the site live, and then IF it one day becomes a for-profit endeavor upgrade the Non-commercial license to a Commercial license??

Basically, will I have the ability to “grow” the license as my website grows, or do I have to make the decision on what license I will ultimately need and buy it up-front?

Cheers,
Pete.

Hello Petar,

Thank you for your question.

You have it right, you can start out with Freelancer and then upgrade later if needed.

One thing to keep in mind, the software for Freelancer is different from Non-Commercial and Commercial. Things like Membership, Forum, and so on are not possible with Freelancer. So if you did grow and then needed those features then you would also need to reinstall the software.

I hope this helps!

Cheers,
