I came to EE because I was looking for a tool that can help me with design (thus I’m not a designer) of my sites.
Long story short - EE site doesnt look like a site “for design(ers)” - it looks more like a “tool webiste”. At first I just skipped your webiste because of that - as a CEO of other company I think you should know that (- I would if it was about my websites).
Currently I’m just looking around. I’ll need to pre-design themes for beta.booklikes.com (first theme: dawid.booklikes.com)

EE is a ‘tool’, a tool for web designers and developers. Lots of web designers, including myself love it. But they like to design. It’s more of a tool that let’s designers develop, but its also a great tool for developers as well. But yes, it’s not going to help you design your site, as much as it would help you design your site faster, more secure, with less issues, etc. You bring the design, it provides the tools.  That said, if you’re looking for inspiration, I’d say visit http://show-ee.com

i understand your comment, however, as a developer, I understand this is a CMS, the target audience is developers and companies wanting a management system. It’s not designed to be like word press and focus on things like themes.

I’d much rather the EE developers work on features. As web developers we can find designs or make them, that’s the easy part. it’s functionality, security and extensibility that we look for in this system.

EE is not a platform for everyone, but it’s extremely good at what it does, and is not only doing well, it’s exploding in popularity in it’s target audience.

All that said I understand and empathize with your frustration. it’s difficult to find the right ‘look’ today that doesn’t look like every other template website.
