Advise on EE features

Hi all,

I am considering buying the license, freelance one to start with.

My project requires a huge amount of tagging contents. Is tagging contents and tags robust in EE. What if I have 1 million tags ?

Secondly I want to populate contents using custom code, will that be easily possible with EE as I already have a lot of experience with CI ?

I am actually looking for a basic cms which has these two requirements.  Since I had experience with CI, I looked at EE.  Mature cms like drupal would be too bloated for my use, will EE be the same meaning too bloated for my use ?

regds,
Shikhar

Hello ,

Thank you for your questions regarding ExpressionEngine.

Tags assumes a blog like format and since ExpressionEngine makes no assumptions about your data, taging is not currently a feature that is included. There is a very popular Add-On called tags that people with the need to tag have used with a lot of success. Another is tagger.

ExpressionEngine is built upon CI, and so writing modules and plugins will be familiar to you already, which is a huge plus.

ExpressionEngine is not bloated at all, it’s lean and mean and a blank canvas as it were ready for whatever you would like to use it for. ExpressionEngine is very flexible, something developers really love about it.

Is there anything else I can help you with?

Thank you,

Shane Thanks for replying.

I was actually thinking of buying the $99 license for my personal blog to get familiar.
But as you said tags are inherently not supported.
Does this mean EE is not suited for blogs ? Are there websites using EE as blogs ? (If possible give me the links)

Hey shikhar,

Oh, not at all. Blogs are very simple in ExpressionEngine and the format lends itself to blogging very easily.

Please check out Show-EE for not only blogs, but other style website examples. In version 1, what is now called channels was called weblog, just to give you an idea of where ExpressionEngine has it’s roots.

I hope this helps!

I highly suggest the freelancer, we offer a money back guarantee if you do not love ExpressionEngine.

Is there anything else I can help with?

Thank you,
