Kicked Out from Control Panel

Hi,

I have this very annoying problem with my EE website. I get kicked out often from the control panel without a clear reason. So I have to re-log in to the CP each time this happens.

I have no clue why. Sometimes it happens when I hit a submit button (with code loss as a consequence), sometimes when I go to the template manager.

Sometimes I can work for half an hour without a problem and sometimes I get kicked out 3 times in five minutes.

My settings in Admin > Security & Sessions
- cookies only for CP session type
- Require IP Address and User Agent for posting? = No

Can somebody help?

Thanks!

Hi bertc,

Let me get some info from you to help troubleshoot this:

- Is this an MSM site?
- Are you running the latest release of EE 2? (That’s EE 2.5.2)
- Are you accessing this site from behind a proxy or firewall?
- Are you on a mobile connection?
- In which geographic region are you located?

Hi Kevin,

here are my answers to your questions:

- Is this an MSM site? -> if you mean a Multi Site Manger site: no, it is a developer license
- Are you running the latest release of EE 2? (That’s EE 2.5.2) -> I bought this license about a month ago, so I guess this is the latest version?
- Are you accessing this site from behind a proxy or firewall? -> not that I know of
- Are you on a mobile connection? -> No
- In which geographic region are you located? -> In Belgium (Europe)

Best regards,

Bert

Hey Bert,

I think the best way to help you here is to have a look myself. Be on the lookout for an email from me!

Hi Bert,

I don’t know if this will help but I had a similar problem on one of my EE sites and what finally worked was to clear out all of my cookies and other saved internet files. I remember it was a very annoying problem, good luck!

While we await your login information, Bert, does Heather’s suggestion help resolve this? Perhaps something just got stuck in the cache.

Hi,

I cleared the cookies, etc as Heather pointed out and apparently this helped for a while.
But I just got kicked out again. So does anyone else have an idea how to solve this?

Thanks!

Just to share; I had a similar issue. I had a load balancer installed in the office that switched between two different internet connections. When I removed the load balancer and plugged straight into one internet connection using a router the problem disappeared. So check whatever set up you have in your office. Have you tried logging in from different locations? Do you get the same result?

Hi Bert,

Did Greg’s idea shed any light on your situation?

If you IP rotates, it can invalidate your ExpressionEngine session/cookies. You can turn this off in Admin-> Security and Privacy-> Security and Sessions: Require IP Address and User Agent for Login?

Cheers,

Thanks for the help Greg, but unfortunately I connect directly to the internet via a router. So I guess this should not be causing the problem.

Hi Dan, I will try this option and keep my fingers crossed.

Unfortunately turning off “Require IP Address and User Agent for Login” did not help either. In the last 5 minutes I got kicked out 2 times. This problem is driving me mad.

I tried EE with the developer license to check out whether it would be a good CMS for my potential clients. But I am getting serious doubts.

Anyone else an idea?

==> I just disabled “Save revisions” and I haven’t been kicked out the admin for an hour. Could this be the solution?

Hi Bert,

Thanks for the note on saving revisions. Now that it’s been a little over a day since you posted that, have you found enabling/disabling that preference to provide any kind of consistent pattern?

Hi Kevin,

unfortunately the problem is still not solved. However, I have the impression that I do not get kicked out that often.

Can anyone tell me what is checked wether someone should be granted access to the control panel? If I know what is checked perhaps I can start looking there what might be causing this problem?

Hey Bert,

All Control Panel access options for a Member Group are set under the “Control Panel Access” header when you edit the Member group.

Ultimately, I think this may have to do with session/cookie issues we’re tracking overall.

Do you see the same behavior as a Super Admin?

Hi Dan,

yes, this behaviour occurred when I was logged in as a Super Admin.
