Moving hosting of v1.69

I have just moved an expressionengine v1.69 website to another hosting location.

Steps Taken
1. Copied everything from the web root location
2. Exported the MySql database
3. Set up hosting on different host
4. Copied everything via ftp from original hosting location
5. Created new MySql database
6. Edited config.php to include the new database details
7. Imported the backed up MySql database via phpmyadmin on new hosting

Problem
The Menu displays {menu_1} then the menu item and the link is broken it is going to mynewdomain.com/{cell_1}, however the pages are there because when i go to mynewdomain.com/index.php/page/page name it works just fine.

Also the CMS mynewdomain.com/ncfa-cp has no styling rules attached to it and i can’t login with a user that i know works on the original installation.

The test site (new hosting) is here: http://d1050793-668.cp.irishdomains.com/ and the old site which still works fine is here: http://ncfa.ie/

Please help asap!

Thanks in advance,

Hey simonstewart,

Sorry about the delay in getting to you! Your post was in the core forum, which does not get checked very often. To get quick responses from me and my team, please post to EE 2 Tech Support, which is where your thread is now.

Server moves are tricky, but it’s almost always a path issue.

This guide will really help if you follow it. It’s EE 1 specific.

Be sure to check all your paths, a lot of what you are dealing with could very well be just a few paths that need to be updated.

Please let me know how that goes.

Cheers,

Thanks Shane,

I read the article (already) I agree that it looks like a path issue, the site looks fine apart from the menu links and the control panel access.

Would you have any pointers as to where to look to make edits to paths?

Thanks again,

Simon

Hi Shane,

I appreciate your persistence.

I assume that the above is checked via the administration panel which unfortunately i can’t access on the new test location: http://d1050793-668.cp.irishdomains.com/ncfa-cp.

I get the login screen (without any styling) as mentioned above but the user account which i know works on original installation returns an ‘incorrect password’ error.

Would it be possible to make these changes direct to the database via phpmyadmin do you think?

Thanks in advance,

Simon

Hi again Shane,

I am beginning to think that this may work fine once we switch the nameservers over i.e. when ncfa.ie is actually at this hosting then it may just work!

Thoughts please.

Best…

Hey simonstewart,

That may be the case, if you want to wait until then, it’s not a bad idea.

You can modify the paths directly in the DB, that’s not problem.

Hi Shane,

Thanks again.

The original Problem:
The Menu displays {menu_1} then the menu item and the link is broken it is going to mynewdomain.com/{cell_1}, however the pages are there because when i go to mynewdomain.com/index.php/page/page name it works just fine.

You suggested that this is a path issue and i wholeheartedly agree, but could you advise on how to edit the MySQL database via phpmyadmin or another tool to look for path urls, i am quite familiar with it and have already taken a long look?

Regards,

Hey simon,

If you are not familiar with MySQL then I would maybe not attempt this.

How close are you to switching DNS over?

Cheers,
