I get this message through my browser when I try pointing to the my EE directory. Trying to access install wizard.

‘Your config file does not appear to be formatted correctly.’

Does anyone know what I am missing in my installation process?

Hi MarkerMaker,

I’ll do what I can to get you past this error!

Are you seeing this as a fresh installation or as a upgrade/update to an existing installation?

What version of ExpressionEngine are you trying to install?

If you open /system/expressionengine/config/config.php, what do you see?

Cheers,

Hi MarkerMaker,

I am sorry for the delay. Can you verify the permissions on /system/expressionengine/config/config.php and /system/expressionengine/config/database.php are set to 666 ?

Do you still see the error?

Cheers,

Hi MarkerMaker,

What URL are you trying to access to start the installer?

You should either go to:

http://domain.com/admin.php

or

http://domain.om/system/index.php

Going to your main index.php will result in the error you are getting and isn’t going to get the installation started.

Cheers,

Thanks for coming back to me.

Not sure as it is a local install running on MAMP so the URL is ‘http://domain:8888/’.

I have done this a few times before and never had any issues so not so sure what is happening here, any ideas?

Hi MarkerMaker,

You should be able to access the installer by going to:

http://localhost:8888/admin.php

Does that not work for you?

Hi MarkerMaker,

With that error, you need to open /admin.php and verify that $system_path is set correctly.

Have you moved /system above web-root or renamed it at all?

Now might be a good time to review the User Guide on Installation and make sure you haven’t missed anything critical.

Cheers,

I have renamed the system directory and I have changed the system name in the ‘admin.php’ file but still get the same error in the browser window. Not sure what I am missing going through the install guide?

it does sound like a path issue in admin.php…maybe try changing the system folder name back to “system”. Then change the name of the folder after it is installed successfully.
