hey guys,

my host just moved my EE installation to a new server.

EE 1.7.2 Build:  20120206

my website works, i can log into ee, i can edit previous entries, and i can publish to many of my weblogs, but some get the following error instead of showing me to the form for new entries to the weblog.

here is the error message after clicking to publish to the weblog, before being able to enter any information:

The website encountered an error while retrieving http://www.mysite.com/express/index.php?S=0&C=publish&M=entry_form&weblog_id=3. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.
Here are some suggestionsReload this webpage later.

HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request

————————————————————
and some of the weblogs that are working can publish fine, until i try to upload an image. i use Ngen for the image upload. here is an example of the error:

The website encountered an error while retrieving http://www.mysite.com/express/index.php?S=0&C=publish&M=new_entry. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.

HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request

it’s hit or miss, some work, some don’t

any ideas? i have similar problems in all three of my EE installations with this host. 2 of the EE are 1.7.2 and one is a EE v2.2.1 - Build: date 20110705

my EE 2 installation’s error is that when uploading an image, it says the thumbnail file is not writable. i could not seem to change that folder’s permission, so i asked my host to change it. still problems. so he change the entire site to writable and still get the same error: “Thumbnail could not be created for the image. Please make sure the thumbnail directory is writable.”

Are you using nGen file field for your images in your EE 1.7.2 install? I just ran into this issue with a client and realized it’s only on entries with that field. I checked the version of nGen file field and then decided to update it. Voila. The update of the field worked to fix the issues and no more Error 500.

Hey rokker,

Ultimately, this is going to require support from your host.

With the thumbnail write-permission, can be affected by ownership more than permission.

It depends on the user account that apache and PHP run under as well as who is the assigned owner of folders created by PHP. With the move, it could have disrupted ownership, hence the trouble you are having.

Have you asked the host what all has changed as part of the move? Verify your account paths with them and make sure they are still valid in your ExpressionEngine installations.

I look forward to your reply!

Cheers,

Hi rokker,

Excellent, I see Shane is taking good care of you over there.

We’ll keep this open for the report back as well.
