In the last week I asked somebody to rewrite their post because it was so poorly written that there’s no way that anyone could understand it. I wasn’t trying to be rude, and I don’t think it was taken that way. In my own frustration, I believe I have said things here that might seem rude. I don’t want to be a moderator or spam patroller. I just want to enjoy a forum and have intelligent conversation with people that speak my language. By language, I don’t mean English, I mean PHP
There’s nothing inherently wrong with telling someone that they’ve failed to articulate their problem, and there’s nothing wrong with letting people seeking help know that their questions should be optimized for the reader’s time. But if a post is so poorly written that I can’t begin to make heads or tails out of it, I just don’t bother helping the person improve at all.
Telling someone that their question is pure crap is effectively helping them, provided that you see some glimmer of hope that the person may just take your advice. Otherwise, you just get frustrated and burned out.
When I see someone that can’t be bothered to even attempt to form a coherent sentence (no capitalization, text-speak [pls, r u, dis, etc], no punctuation) .. I just move on. Such posts aren’t worth the few seconds of my life needed to form a reply.
