How to have profile at domain.com/username?

My site allows users to create portfolios for themselves. I’d like to make it so that a user can have a short link to their portfolio (I’m using Zoo Visitor to create the template).

I could easily make “domain.com/portfolio/username” work, but I’d like to remove the segment_1, so that it would be “domain.com/username”.

Is this possible?

What’s the best way? Native EE? htaccess?

Hi AdamSmith,

There is no officially supported way to remove segment_1 from the url. If I were to do this I would look into using htaccess but that can quite tricky when it comes to segment_1 and we cannot provide support for that (we can move the thread to community support should you wish to get additional help there).

One alternative would be to use an URL shortener to have short links created to your site. You could look at Shorty or DM Shortee as options to have short urls specific to your site.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help you.

Thanks Sean,

Can you please move this to Community Support?

I’d like to see if anyone’s done this yet, or if they can help coming up with the proper .htaccess file.

Thanks,
Adam
