Suggestions for best way to notify club members of new events and news items

Hi. I have built a simple site for a local junior sporting club. The president regularly posts news items to a news channel and events to an events channel. He would like all of the parents of the children to receive an email notifying them of the new news item or event that is online, preferable with the details in the email. Until now he has been posting the items and then sending out a separate email, via the Mailing List, with the same information in it.

I am looking for suggestions for a better way to do this within EE. We would prefer not to make each parent become a member of the site as many may not wish to do so yet we need to email all of them. We would prefer the notification to be automated somehow.

Please let me know if you require any further information.

My suggestion would be to use Champagne, along with a $15/mth Campaign Monitor subscription. If you’re still using v1.x that is. Great for doing up newsletters and ones that have a nicely designed email template too. Best done in combination with Matrix and a relationship field.

If you are using EE 1, then Entry Mailing is a solution.

Ah, sorry, one glaring omission by me is that the site is EE 2. Do you know if anything like Entry Mailing has been developed for EE 2? Or is there a simple way to do this in EE 2?

MX Notify Control is a new addon for EE2 that looks like it does the job.

Thank you. I did see this on Devot-ee but it didn’t seem to be able to send to a mailing list or member group, however the link you sent me shows that it does. Thanks so much for that.

Did you get this working? I am trying to do the same thing with MX Notify Control, and can’t seem to get it to work.

Hi Mosaik,

You need to develop a simple extension to notify all the parents when any news or events is being published.

“MX Notify Control” add-on is great for notification but it doesn’t work for the emails of any member group or channel entries.

Could you please share more information how you are managing the parents as you mentioned that each parents wouldn’t like to be the member.
Based on it, I could share some helpful logic for you.

Best Regards,

Hi Bhashkar,

Mosic’s comments were posted in 2010, so I’m not sure that she still needs help. I was posting in her thread today to see if she had a solution that I could use for my problem. I have a blog where I want users to be able to “subscribe” and be notified via email every time a new blog entry is posted (they should not have to register as a member of the site). I’d like to use EE’s built in Mailing List Module to manage the subscription, but I need to figure out a way to send an email notification to my entire mailing list every time a blog entry is posted.

Hi there

Sorry for the delayed response. I did start to get this working with a nice email being sent to myself whenever there is a post published on the site. However, the site stopped development as it was for a children’s sports club and they weren’t very prompt with regards to sending me information e.g. the registration list, and it was pro-bono so I wasn’t able to progress any further. Actually, I’m still waiting for the list! This was a couple of year’s ago now so I’d have to look at the code again to remember what I did. There may also be new addons that have been developed since then… maybe someone is able to suggest a new one you can use, although MX Notify was working well.

Cheers
