Hello,

I am new to this software and I have been trying to follow the installation instructions and to link the software with my web site. I am experiencing some difficulties in the process. Are there any detailed tutorials or live help to guide me trough this process? I have read the installation guide, and it doesn’t help.

Please help…...

Welcome to the ExpressionEngine forums, Oren.

Can you tell us more about your site? Are you wanting to install ExpressionEngine on a professionally managed server? What have you tried so far? Do you have an FTP program you’re comfortable using? What level of experience do you have?

Hello Sue,

I am a beginner. Currently I am using GoDaddys hosting and ftp. My site is a real estate site, and I purchased a template with 5-6 pages online. I uploaded my site, and now I am trying to upload and link the ExpressEngine software. I got to the point where it says in the instructions that my images need to be binary format and all other files ASCII format. I am stuck from this point on as I don’t really understand what they mean, and the instructions don’t really go into details. Are there any screen shots or more detailed tutorials on how to install and link this software?

Thank you for your help,
Oren

Which ftp program are you using? I normally recommend using something like Filezilla, which will work well with a Mac or PC. It’s also great at taking the worry out of uploading, it’s smart enough to upload images and files differently.

Does that help?

Hey Sue, Thanks again. I am using the ftp trough Godaddy as they are my hosting company. The issue with the images and so forth was written in the installation guidelines for ExpressEngine. Are you suggesting I try to upload everything as it is in the files of the program? Is there a way to chat/communicate live with customer service? I am starting to have second thoughts about this program as there is no “live” person to get help from. Again, any recommendations and suggestions are appreciated.

Unfortunately we don’t offer direct support via voice. If you need installation help, I normally recommend someone from the Pro Network to assist you.

However, can you tell us more about your project? GoDaddy is a great registrar, but I don’t recommend them for hosting dynamic sites.
