img src="[![Link:!:http://]!]"

but i don’t know how to get the code for the button on the bottom… thats the one I use.

2nd issue separate but same topic. When i create a upload field from custom fields category… it makes a link to the picture but doesn’t embed it, when i choose one from the already uploaded list it does the same thing. Glad it finds the file and all, but not very practical raspberry

vlad_i,

I am going to split you into your own thread as this on is quite old and we are now out of beta.

What version and build of EE are you running?
Is this an upgrade or a fresh install?

Split from here

vlad_i,

If you log out and back into the control panel are you then able to add the file?

There are 2 ways of adding a file here.

In custom fields you can either choose
1. Field Type and give it the image button on the bottom right… you can upload without any problems here BUT if you try to retrieve a file from the folder the 1st time you try it adds this

<a href="{filedir_1}undefined"></a
to the field and if you go back and select the image the 2nd TIME, yes the 2nd time!!! It will drop the appropriate image text right next to the the useless
<a href="{filedir_1}undefined"></a

...

2. If we are using the custom field FILE.
If you select the file from the list it just says “undefined”
If you try to upload the image it just gives you a box with the text, and shows up as the URL in the page.

Please let me know how to fix this.

Hi vlad_i,

I have just run into this as well on my local development setup. For example, when saving an image to one of the designated file upload locations, and then immediately attempting to choose it in the Publish page. The file is listed but the thumbnail is blank and choosing it adds it as undefined. Exit the chooser and go back in and it will work.

Can you please report this and just give a step-by-step on reproducing? Please link to the report from here. Very much appreciated.

I didn’t report it yet, because i basically did the step by step here and don’t really have time at the moment. Since you are having the problem i assume no progress.

I have not been able to insert an image using the File Manager since 2.1 initial but only on one of my last two EE sites.  The working one is Dreamhost, broken is OSX Server so its obviously a config issue.  What’s missing is my question….

It certainly sounds that way. Make sure to be on the latest version and build. Are you using extensions, or custom field types? Any other third-party add-ons? You’ll want to keep it as “stock” as possible for testing.

I am also getting “http://ellislab.com/asset/images/team-photo/undefined” when I try to insert a file from the file manager within an entry, on a fresh install of EE 2.1, build 20100810.  The fieldtype is textarea, and I’m using the default HTML button in the editing toolbar to link to the file.  Any fixes for this?  I need to send this site to the client, and they’ll need to use the file manager regularly…

Karen,

What is your hosting environment?
Is this a fresh install or an upgrade?
Are you using any third-party add-ons?
What browser are you using?

What are your steps? Do you try and insert uploaded image immediately? Can you add an image already in your library?

I can’t replicate this issue myself on my own local install.

The error was only when trying to insert an image that already existed in the image library—

But, it turns out it was a permissions problem - the host company had to make some changes to that the thumbnail directory wasn’t owned by ‘apache’, then I was able to change permissions to 777 and all works well now!
