1) Am I correct in assuming that forum categories can be assigned to member groups? In other words, can I have a couple of forum categories that only supermembers(sic) can see.

2) What is the best option for a shopping cart/payment integration with EE2.1?

1) You would do this per-forum, not per-forum-category.  You could also use Forum Boards depending on what degree of separation you are after.

2) Right now the first-party Simple Commerce module is the only one updated to work with 2.1.  I believe both FoxEE and CartThrob are working on EE 2 compatible versions.

In this forum, would you call ‘pre sales’ a forum?
