Did EE2 do away with the Default HTML Buttons I’ve grown dependent upon? I can’t see how to activate them, if they’re still there.
Now, I see the Glossary that I can expand at the bottom of my Publish pages, but nothing happens when I click on any of the items, so I don’t really get what they’re there for.

Under your Channel Preferences under Publish Page Customization do you have Display Rich Formatting Buttons turned on
In your custom filed settings make sure you have Show Formatting Buttons tuned on

This preferences is set to On, but I see nothing. No amount of clicking the glossary terms does anything. I’m using Safari Version 5.0 (6533.16). Attached is a screen shot of my window.
Which version and build of EE2 are you on? If this was an upgrade to 2.1, please completely delete /themes/cp_themes and re-upload it freshly from the EE 2.1 package. Then clear all browser caches and log in again.
This is odd. I installed the version from the 2.1.0 download, but EE is saying, when I expand the Expression Engine Info section of the CP, that “The current version of ExpressionEngine is v2.0.2 Build 20100712.”
???
This was an upgrade from 1.6.8, so the whole themes folder was copied new.
But, I did what you said, and nothing has changed: the Glossary does nothing, and I see no HTML buttons.

This is intentional, as it allows a soft launch to our core web audience rather than alerting every ExpressionEngine installation worldwide that a new version is available the same day.
Are you able to test on a different browser please?
I’ve tested it on 3 browsers and 2 computers, all with the same results for ALL 3 sites I’ve deployed.
The only icons I see are: Image Upload, Spell Check, Glossary, the Smileys link, and then the formatting popup menu. Clicking the Glossary links do nothing whatsoever, and the HTML buttons are nowhere to be seen.
Were all 3 sites upgrades? I’m afraid I’m not reproducing. Is it possible to try a clean install on your end, and see if that persists? Just trying to nail things down here.
For your HTML buttons, do you have any defined at Admin > Content Administration > Default HTML Buttons? If so, please access your account and check what you have defined as HTML Formatting Buttons under Channel Settings.
For the glossary issue, do you actually have any content in the custom field? What happens if you add a sentence and then click a glossary item twice?

I have bold, italics, blockquote, a, and img.
Nothing at all happens when I add text and double-click a glossary item.
And what about in your own account’s setting for HTML buttons? There are two places where they may be defined; the default set for all users at Admin > Content Administration > Default HTML buttons and an override to allow a personal set that is found in your account.
Okay, so I went to Members > View All and clicked admin (the only user), and it pulled up a different looking page than the Admin > Content Admin, etc.
