H, Ive been trying to display a list of articles sorted by the most recent comments, like the one on control panel (Most Recent Comments/TB)

What I’ve been doing lately is a list of the latest comments, but it doesnt look good if one article have a lot of comments, I end up with a list of the same title.

{exp:comment:entries weblog="news" orderby="date" sort="desc" limit="5" dynamic="off"}
{title}
{
/exp:comment:entries}

Please advice.

Kind regards
Robert

Robert:

Sorry, but I’m not sure what the problem is.  What do you mean by:

If you go for the code (exp:comment:entries) I use for the moment and one article is very popular comment on, you end up with a list with the same article title.
Thats not what I’m after, I’m after a list of articles that is sorted by the most recent comments, just like the control panel home (Most Recent Comments/TB).

Does it make sense?

It would be great if I could orderby ‘recent_comment_date’ in exp:weblog:entries

I’m sure I could write a quick little plugin that would pull however many distinct entries from a weblog and sort them by the time they were posted.  Although, it would probably just be the entry {title}, {url_title} and a couple other things.  The custom weblog fields would probably not be incorporated.

Would you be interested in that?

Wow MeanStudios, that’s a nice offer!  smile

Are you going to go ahead on the plugin?

Ya, that shouldn’t be a problem at all smile.  All you would have to supply would be the weblog ID to the plugin and how many entries you want it to display smile.  Give me a day or so.

Would there be any chance to add more than one weblog ID?

ordering by most recent comment in the weblog entries tag would be a great feature request; for now, however, I’ve moved this up to the How To forum.

Am I misunderstanding what is needed here as the weblog tag does have such an orderby=“most_recent_comment” parameter doesn’t it?

I might totally be misunderstanding what was meant by that though?

Ya, I thought that too Mark but that doesn’t give you the comment author.  I’ve made a tiny little plugin that uses less queries to get the information rather than using exp:weblog:entries and exp:comment:entries tags together.
Packaging it up now and shipping it off to GitHub wink.

Ah right I think I see now although could that not be done with perhaps an embed to get the needed data?

Looking forward to seeing the plugin though as that will obviously show me exactly what it is that is needed.
